Embrace Wisdom in Your Home (1)

by Pastor Faith Oyedepo, Week 1, August, 2006

Hello Dear Reader,

It is another month and another opportunity to enrich your life on Family Matters. I am devoting this month to you and your relationship with your children. The essence is to give you a better understanding of your children so as to maximise this season in exploring the virtues that make a glorious destiny for your children.

In this first part, I shall be teaching on the topic, Children are blessings. I would like to begin by enlightening you on who those wonderful children, you have been privileged of God to bring forth, are. It is my prayer that your eyes will be opened to this truth, in Jesus’ precious name. You shall not have regrets over them.

Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. (Psalm 127:3-5).

This scripture says, “Lo” in other words, “Behold”, or in modern day English, it means look here or pay attention because it is very important and crucial, children are the heritage of the Lord. The word “heritage” also means inheritance or blessings. Children are gifts from God; they are blessings to the family, and a are unique blend of their parents. Children are given to us as part of our inheritance in Christ Jesus and in case you don’t have them yet, you can begin to envision them as part of your blessings in Christ. They are on their way. God has pronounced you fruitful. As long as you are a child of God, you are entitled to the blessings of children. No matter what the doctors have diagnosed as being responsible for the delay or barrenness, God is greater than that report. So, choose to believe the report of the Lord.

Reading that scripture again, Children are an heritage of the Lord, you will understand that they belong to God, who gives you the privilege to oversee, take care of, and bring them up in the fear and admonition of the Lord all the days of their lives. When you receive them as the heritage and blessings of God, then God’s purpose for sending them to you get manifested. They are not burdens, they are blessings; they are your heritage from God. So, from today, refuse to see them as burdens in your life.

Your perspective in life determines your focus and interest. Somebody once said, your perspective in life picks your interest. The Bible also says in Proverbs 23:7: For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he. Also in Jeremiah 1:11-12 the scripture says: Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou’ And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree. Then said the Lord unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it. There are quite a number of parents who see their children as another burden. When the children do something wrong, instead of standing up to their own responsibilities, they look at that child as burdensome and troublesome.

When you see a child as a burden in your life, that child will truly be a burden to you. See them, and look at them with your spiritual eyes as blessings of the Lord. Proverbs 10:22 says: The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. Considering this scripture, God does not want to bring sorrow to your life through your children. No! God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it’ or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good’ (Numbers 23:19).

If He says your children are a blessing then, He will make His Word good in your life. If you have ever experienced sorrow over your children, I believe God that will be the last you will ever experience in Jesus’ name. Maybe you have children that are problematic or, they are like “thorns” in your flesh. Today I pray that God’s power will reach them, no matter how troublesome they are, God will turn their lives around for good in Jesus’ mighty name.

The introductory scripture also says, As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of thy youth (Psalm 127:4). An arrow to the mighty man is an asset not a burden. It is a blessing, not a burden; so also are your children. In other words, children are assets; they are blessings. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. They are gifts of God to make you happy and not to sorrow.

Whatever may have been your experience, if your children are blessings to you, you will not sorrow over them. The spice that they are adding to your home will not turn sour. They have been a blessing, and won’t turn to burdens for you. Blessings are God’s addition; they will not diminish. Also, if they have been otherwise, it is my prayer that God’s mighty hand will come upon them. Every hard-heartedness gives way right now. God, who has purposed them to be blessings, will cause you to rejoice over them. Great shall be their peace. You shall not miss it in Jesus’ mighty name.

Seeing your children as God sees them is a product of grace and grace is only available to the redeemed of the Lord. To become a child of God, you must first accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. If you would want to receive Him right now, please pray this prayer of faith with me: “Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today as a sinner. I believe You died for my sins and rose on the third day. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me by Your blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You Lord for saving me!”

Congratulation! It is your season of laughter!
