Securing a Glorious Future for Your Children
by Pastor Faith Oyedepo, Week 1, April, 2008
Dear Reader,
It is good to share God’s Word with you today in this exciting column. I pray you will be blessed in Jesus’ name!
Parents should bear in mind that the children of today are the adults of tomorrow; they constitute the future generation. Someday in future, the young parents today would become grandparents, and would have handed over the baton to the next generation.
The future of your children is very important because the children of today are the future generation. If your children are properly brought up in the fear of God today, there will be peace and tranquility in the society in the future. If children are however, not properly trained in the fear of God, there will be corruption and heartache in the society. Presenting these verses depends on how parents handle child training today. The Word of God says: Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).
A child trained, is a child raised. A child left unto himself is the one that brings shame. The first step in looking forward to a Godly generation is to begin in the family by raising Godly children unto the Lord. If you do not train your child today, you will be one of those responsible for the corruption of the society in the future. You shall not be found wanting in Jesus’ name. You will make a positive difference in the lives of your children. You will leave a mark in your generation. Children yet unborn, even long after you might have departed, will remember you for good.
For the about-to-marry, as you look forward to a godly man coming your way, also begin to plan and get ready for securing a glorious future for your covenant children. For the married, and having raised or still in the process of raising children, see the ways of God which are higher than your own ways, and also better and more result producing, then you will find rest for your souls. For the grannies, the Bible commands to ‘teach the younger women’. Let us learn and pass Godly instructions to the future generation, so that our world will be a better place. May the good Lord give us all understanding!
Our life and future depend on it. The Word says: A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children:…. (Proverbs 13:22). What kind of inheritance do you want to leave’ Houses, cars, money, etc are material inheritance that are temporal, but the everlasting and eternal inheritance are the virtues you leave with these children, which will make them glorify God for your long life anytime they remember you. It is a common saying here that a child not built (trained), will eventually sell off a house built. The Word of God says: And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites pots full of wine, and cups, and I said unto them, Drink ye wine. But they said, We will drink no wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons for ever (Jeremiah 35:5-6).
We can see from this Scripture that the good works of a man called Jonadab, was long speaking after him. He commanded his children and showed them the right way. He instructed them in the way of the Lord. He raised them to God’s glory. He left. Long after, the children needed to make a decision, they acted based on what they have learnt from their father. They have been brought up with sundry virtues, they walked therein. No wonder, this man’s name found a space in the Book of books.
Right now, I ask for grace for obedience for every reader in Jesus’ Name. You shall make a difference in your generation. Your children shall remember you and declare ‘Blessed is the God of our mother, so and so. Praise God for the life of our father, so and so.’ They shall be proud of you as a Godly mother or father, who taught and showed them the right way to living. Your names shall appear in the Lamb’s book of life, having carried out God’s will on the earth. This shall be your portion in Jesus’ Precious Name. Amen!
If you are reading this article and you are not born again, you must accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. If you are already born again, whatsoever He tells you to do, do it and you will reap the reward of obedience.
The power to secure a glorious future for your children is available, if you are born again. Being born again entails confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. If you are ready for this new birth experience, please say this prayer: Dear Lord, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Savious. Now I know I am born again!
